The first day of school is almost here and we are so excited! As always, we are so grateful for all of YOU who make the school year go smoothly. One of our key players at Taylor Elementary School is the Parent Teacher Association (PTA). The PTA would love your support in any way that you can provide! You are invited to join the first PTA meeting of the school year on Wednesday, August 20 at 12:10 pm at the school. Throughout the year, meetings will normally be held on the second Wednesday of each month at 12:10 pm at the school. Make sure to follow @taylorelementarypta on Instagram to stay up to date with meetings and activities.

Enjoy your weekend and we will see everyone on Monday! (Except kindergarten, we will see you on Wednesday.)

We are happy to welcome Lisa Petersen as our new Administrative Intern at Taylor Elementary! We will miss Mr. Reid, and we wish him the best as he has been assigned as the new principal of Windridge Elementary. Mrs. Petersen is absolutely amazing, and we are excited for you to meet her!

This is Mrs. Petersen's fourth year as an administrator in Davis School District, previously she spent 16 years teaching various grade levels. Education has been a lifelong passion, and she has loved every chapter of her journey, as a student, as a teacher, and in leadership roles. She is a graduate of Utah State University and Western Governors University and continues to learn every day. Her favorite part of working in education is, "watching students discover their strengths and grow into confident learners. I also love collaborating with teachers and staff who care deeply about making a difference." She recalls that one of her own favorite memories from her elementary school days was with her fourth-grade teacher, Mrs. Morre, who helped push young Mrs. Petersen out of her comfort zone to see that she could accomplish great things. This is a something that Mrs. Petersen has continued to implement into many aspects of her life.

When not at school, Mrs. Petersen enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She has three children and a wonderful husband who supports her in all that she does. She loves baseball (you'll have to come see her collection of pendants in her office), Disney, Taylor Swift, all sporting events, and taking lots of pictures along the way.

She says, "I am absolutely thrilled to be joining the Taylor Elementary community! It's already clear that this is a school full of heart, dedicated educators, and amazing students. I know we're going to accomplish great things together!"

Make sure to introduce yourself to Mrs. Petersen! We are excited to have her with us at Taylor Elementary!

We deeply appreciate everything you've done, Kristy! Her favorite quote is from Peter Golkin: "My two favorite things in life are libraries and bicycles. They both move people forward without wasting anything. The perfect day: riding a bike to the library." 💙📚 #SchoolLibrarian #HappyRetirement

May is National Speech-Language-Hearing Month, a time to raise awareness about communication disorders and the importance of speech and hearing health. At Taylor Elementary School, we proudly recognize Hailey Martineau, our Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP). She evaluates and provides therapy services for students from preschool through sixth grade, addressing a range of communication needs, including articulation, receptive and expressive language, and augmentative and alternative communication. Hailey has been our amazing SLP at Taylor Elementary for two years! She is an avid reader; she loves the Harry Potter series and has read it countless times! Thank you, Hailey, for your invaluable contributions to our students' growth and well-being! #SLP #SpeechLanguagePathologist #SpeechLanguageHearingMonth #DavisSchoolDistrict

🍎🦸‍♀️ LUNCH LEAGUE: Guardians of the Cafeteria 🦸‍♂️🥪 In the hallowed halls of knowledge, while teachers teach and students learn, an elite force of everyday heroes defends the frontline of nutrition. Meet... The Lunch League! Heidi Jacobs (Kitchen Manager) has been at Taylor for 2 years. She is grateful for the teachers and staff at our school for being willing to communicate and work through problems together. She is the only red-head and left-handed person in her family. Debbie Cabezas (Kitchen Cook) has been at Taylor for 3 years. She says that the staff and students at Taylor are great to work with. She loves to travel and spend time with her family. Cindy Ballantyne (Kitchen Cook) must really like Mustangs. She has been a Taylor Mustang for 24 years, has 2 horses that she loves to ride, and she has a 1966 Ford Mustang that she and her husband often put in local car shows. She loves spending time with her family, including 9 grandchildren. Common powers and skills include meal manifestation mastery, oven of justice control, nutritional vigilance, sanitation sorcery, inventory intuition, a cloak of compassion, efficiency genius, educational allyship, and crisis combat training (always ready for surprises, field trips, and the occasional rogue chocolate milk spill). Whether they’re battling against the clock, soothing an upset student, or ensuring every student gets their fuel for learning – The Lunch League stands as an unshakable pillar of the school community. Taylor Elementary School thanks our School Lunch Heroes! 🦸‍♀️🦸‍♂️ Not all heroes wear capes… some wear hairnets. #SchoolLunchHeroDay #DavisSchoolDistrict #SchoolLunch #Superhero #LunchLady

Happy National Principal’s Day! We are grateful to have Dr. Darryl Denhalter at Taylor Elementary. This is his 3rd year at Taylor but has over 22 years of experience in school administration. He loves working with the students, parents, faculty, and community members of Taylor. He also loves to spend time with his family: his wife, 4 sons, a daughter, and 4 grandchildren. Fun facts about Dr. Denhalter are that he was the 6th person in the U.S. to be diagnosed with the E.coli virus and the 1st to survive, he is a beekeeper, he recently went skydiving for the first time, and he helped build the Taj Mahal in India. From Dr. Denhalter: It is an honor and privilege to serve as the principal at Taylor Elementary. This school has a great history of dedicated administrators, teachers, employees, and supportive families and community. I hope to add to that legacy. The school's namesake, Junius Albert Taylor (b. 1883), was actively involved and had a great influence in our community. He began teaching in 1906 and was both a teacher and principal in our area until 1952. He was also the mayor of Bountiful City twice. I am learning he was an impressive person who dedicated his life to serving and loving others. He definitely had qualities we would do well to emulate. J. A. Taylor once shared, "A good education will help a student build character." At Taylor Elementary, we believe in educating the whole child in a positive and innovative learning environment. We believe in promoting and maintaining a school culture of kindness and excellence. We focus primarily on three school rules, Be Safe, Kind, and Reliable. We believe that following those three rules will create a successful school environment, will ultimately lead to happy and productive lives, and as J. A. believed, will "build character" for the students. I encourage all of us to work together to do our best to help our students continually strive to improve and excel as we model this through our own words and actions. Thank you for joining me in this effort to create an amazing learning environment. J. A. Taylor Elementary is a great school because of our united effort and focus. #NAESP #DavisSchoolDistrict
